Schedule a free consultation with Steve Thienel

Thirty minutes with a business, tax, and estate attorney licensed in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. There is no charge, and no obligation to go further.

How booking works

Two steps, about two minutes of your time. The intake form comes first so that Steve reads your situation before the call rather than during it.

1

Tell Steve about your matter

A short intake form asks for your contact details and a few lines about what you need. Nothing long, and nothing you have to prepare for.

2

Pick a time that works

We send you a scheduling link. Pick a 30-minute slot that suits you, and Steve reads your intake before the call so you are not spending the time on background.

No fee

The consultation is free. If it turns out Steve is the right fit, you will talk about what working together looks like on the call — but nothing about booking commits you to it.

What Steve can help with

Thienel Law, PLLC handles business, tax, estate, and elder law for owners and families across the DMV, from the office in Alexandria, VA. Consultations most often cover:

If your question sits outside those areas, say so on the intake form. Steve would rather tell you early that someone else is a better fit.

What to expect

The half hour is about your situation, not a sales pitch. Depending on what you bring, that usually means working through the legal strategy open to you, where tax planning and compliance affect the decision, and which risks are worth addressing now rather than later.

Steve's approach is to make the complicated parts plain. You should finish the call understanding where you stand and what the realistic options are — including the option of doing nothing yet.

How to prepare

You do not need to prepare to book. But a little groundwork makes 30 minutes go considerably further:

  1. Have the relevant documents to hand. Formation papers, contracts, recent returns, notices from a tax authority, financial statements, correspondence about the matter. Steve will tell you where to send anything he needs to read.
  2. Write down your questions. Think about what you want to walk away knowing. A short list keeps 30 minutes focused on the things that actually matter to you.
  3. Outline where the business is going. Legal planning follows the plan for the business. A sentence or two about the next year or two lets the advice fit your direction rather than just the immediate problem.
  4. Think about scope. A one-off answer, ongoing counsel, or help with a specific transaction are different engagements. Knowing which you have in mind makes the conversation concrete.

Why consult with Steve

Steve has practised business, tax, and estate law for more than 26 years and holds an LL.M. in taxation, which is why sophisticated tax work stays in-house instead of being referred out. He is licensed in all three DMV jurisdictions, so a business with a Maryland entity, a D.C. lease, and a Virginia owner is one relationship rather than three. You work with Steve directly.
