What Does Elder Law Encompass?

Elder law encompasses a wide variety of legal issues faced by seniors and aging members of our community. Elder law also focuses on issues faced by individuals with disabilities and impairments.

I already handle some issues related to elder law such as estate planning, probate administration, and guardianships. However, many individuals and families face other issues related to elder law that can be challenging and difficult to navigate without experienced legal counsel.

As part of my dedication to my clients and my desire to provide comprehensive services for caregivers and elderly or disabled clients, I am adding additional elder law services to my legal practice.

In expanding my elder law services, I now offer legal services related to:

  • Retirement Planning

  • Administration of Probate Estates and Trusts

  • Guardianships and Conservatorships

  • Long-term Care Planning

  • Disability and Incapacitation Planning

If you have questions about additional legal needs related to aging or disability, please contact me to discuss your specific legal needs.

Why Do I Need an Elder Law Attorney in Maryland?

Estate planning and elder law are separate legal practices. However, because there is overlap between the areas, it's difficult to know whether you need an estate planning attorney or an elder law attorney. By providing both estate planning and elder law services, I combine these practices to provide comprehensive legal services for my clients.

Preparing for the worst can be daunting and frightening. Many individuals and families may want to delay putting a plan in place because of the sensitive nature of the topics involved and the emotional strain that discussing a worst-case scenario can cause.

However, by planning now for the issues that many individuals face as they age, you have more flexibility to make choices that meet your desires, needs, and goals. Early planning also reduces the stress you and your family may experience when issues arise in the future related to your health, finances, and quality of life. Additionally, early planning provides asset protection so the legacy you built for your loved one remains intact even though you may require costly long-term care or assisted care.

“By planning now for the issues that many individuals face as they age, you have more flexibility to make choices that meet your desires, needs, and goals. ”
